Vietnam travel guide - Phong Nha - Ke Bang was listed in June among the “7 National Parks You Should Visit in Southeast Asia” by the travel channel GOASEAN.
Located in central Quang Binh province, Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was opened to the public in 2003.
“Within it rests some of Southeast Asia’s most spectacular underground rivers, along with some of the world’s most unique forms of flora and fauna - including hundreds of different types of birds,” and “It spans well over 800 sq km in area, and this means that you would probably need more than a day to experience its cavernous wonders,” according to GOASEAN.
The British Cave Research Association (BCRA) recently discovered 57 new caves in 14 areas in the park.
The total length of the cave systems is 20.127 km and most are untouched by humankind.
Among the new discoveries was the 5 million year old Hoa Huong Cave - the oldest among Quang Binh’s many caves.
Thanks to its majestic natural beauty Quang Binh province has attracted huge numbers of international tourists on adventure and cave tours. The province is planning to become a “Kingdom of Adventure Tourism” in Asia in the near future.
Tours to Son Doong, the largest cave in the world at almost 7 kilometers in length and 150 meters in width and 200 meters in height, are fully booked to the end of 2017 despite the high cost.
Community tourism has also become a new trend to attract international tourists to the province, especially European tourists, with 50,000 arriving in the first half.
Last year Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park received a second UNESCO recognition for its biodiversity and ecological and biological processes.
“It features great geological diversity and offers spectacular phenomena, including a large number of caves and underground rivers,” UNESCO said. “The site harbors a high level of biodiversity and many endemic species.”
In 2015 the third phase of a project on the conservation and sustainable management of natural resources at Phong Nha - Ke Bang, funded by the German Government through non-refundable ODA of $2.13 million, was approved by the Prime Minister.
The Quang Binh Provincial People’s Committee is responsible for reciprocal funding of $186,060. The project is expected to be completed by the end of this year and will apply conservation experience to the policy making of local management agencies.
Quang Binh welcomed almost 3 million tourists in 2015, of which nearly 100,000 were foreigners. This year it targets welcoming 3.3 million tourists, including over 100,000 foreigners.
To boost tourism, many accommodation providers have agreed with the province’s suggestion and cut their room rates by 20 to 40 per cent and some restaurants have done likewise, by 10 to 20 per cent.
Quang Binh province is hosting many programs in July, such as an International Beer Festival, an International Swimming Race, and a culinary festival.

They are advised to take a sleeper bus at the fare of VND150,000 per person. After getting off the bus, they should take another car drive to Ngoc Thanh motorboat pier where they book a boat ride for VND205,000 per person to Nam Du Island. Nam Du has a chain of 21 islets and is seen as Halong Bay of southern Vietnam. The first destination is Cu Tron, one of the biggest islets of Nam Du, which has the biggest population in Nam Du and hostels for guests to stay overnight. For instance, Thuy Kiep hostel has air-conditioning, wifi, and water heater. It also serves delicious seafood at good prices, including small crab, oyster, fish and squid and hotpot, and especially fried fish rice.
After lunch, tourists should visit Hai Bo Dap Islet to swim, dive and catch sea urchins and snails. The next destination is Mau Islet where fresh and delicious crab and fish can be found. Sunset on the island is worth seeing as it is beautiful. Tourists are recommended to join local fishermen in an exciting squid fishing trip or enjoy fresh seafood at Hien Hau or Ven Dong eatery.
Tourists can rent a car or a motorbike for VND120,000 per person to have a nice tour around the island. Men beach is the most beautiful place on Nam Du with lines of coconut trees, clear water, and no waves.

 Located about 90 km from Hanoi, the Bai Dinh Pagoda Complex compound consists of the original old temple and a newly created larger temple. It is considered the largest complex of Buddhist temples in Vietnam.

Russia is billed as a country that is making significant changes in the world’s tourism market. Its people have suspended their tours to Egypt and Turkey due to plane crashes and political tension.
Vietnam is the fourth most popular destination for Russian tourists. Sixty percent choose Khanh Hoa province, making the locality Vietnam ’s most attractive destination for Russian people. Phu Quoc (Kien Giang province) and Mui Ne (Binh Thuan province) are also among ideal destinations for long holiday. hanoi package tours
A programme to promote tourism will be held in Russia on February 23 to lure more vacationers to Hanoi and other destinations, as well as connect tours to foreign countries.
In addition, tours linking Hanoi with Quang Ninh, Thanh Hoa, Binh Dinh and Phu Yen provinces will be offered to Russian tourists during the VITM, themed “Vietnam – the paradise of sea and island tourism”.
VITM 2016 is the largest tourism forum of the year, with dozens of seminars, workshops and presentations.

hanoi package tours - The Thien Duong (Paradise) Cave is the most impressive of all natural environments in central Quang Binh Province, says Hanoi tour guide Nguyen Thi Huyen.

“The Thien Duong tour,” she recalls, “started from the city of Dong Hoi very early in the morning, and we travelled 60km through the green landscape of vast rubber tree forests and limestone mountains spotted with grazing cows.”
The cave is inside the World Heritage-listed Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, home of the mythic Son River. Legend has it that the river was where a young couple decided to drown themselves rather than live separately. The name Son, or “Vermilion”, commemorates the couple’s faithfulness.
It is accessible to visitors who have to climb up 524 steps bordered by liana vines resembling giant serpents.
Hidden charm
The cave mouth has been formed by two fossilised tree trunks which once evoked the attention of the Vatican’s Saint Peter Chancel.
"It felt like the unfolding of a new sky," says Khanh Van, a visitor from Hanoi.
The ceiling resembles a gothic arch 80–100m high, while the floor points towards icons of Oriental culture.
"Some stalagmites remind us of Buddha, the Great Wall of China, and a Tay Nguyen (Central Highlands) rông house," she says.
Each part of the cave opens into a different space, with giant naturally formed silhouettes of unicorns, lions, and dragons. In some places the waves of its sandstone appear like a desert. Its interpretative openness symbolises the reconciliation of various religions embraced throughout Vietnam’s long history.

The Cave was discovered by local man Ho Khanh in 2005. British Cave Research Association (BCRA) representatives explored and named it Paradise. They listed it as “the longest dry cave in Asia” (100m high, more than 200m wide, and large enough to hold 1,000 people), which might be formed 300-400 million years ago.
No wonder visitors find the Paradise Cave more beautiful and mystic than Phong Nha Cave recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
Truong Thinh Corporation has initially invested VND83 billion (US$4.3 billion) in opening the first kilometre of the cave’s 31.4lm length to tourists.
"The next 6km demands a more adventurous spirit" says Huyen.
World Natural Heritage
Quang Binh’s famous caves have lured increasingly large numbers of both domestic and international tourists.
The Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park was recognised by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage Site in 2003. It covers 85,754ha of forests, tropical jungles, rivers, grasslands, and subterranean cave systems.
The Park’s Deputy Director Dang Dong Ha says 22 international exploratory expeditions have been undertaken since 1990, along with a BCRA survey conducted by Howard Limbert.
The Phong Nha-Ke Bang has become a "kingdom of caves" famous in Vietnam, Asia, and the rest of the world. Explorers have uncovered 170 caves with a total length in the hundreds of kilometres.
Phong Nha Cave’s underground river is the longest (7.7km), and Son Doong Cave, the largest in the world.
